Job summary

Union Estimation LLC in the United States seeks a Senior Heavy Civil Estimator with a strong background in underground utilities and infrastructure construction. The role requires at least 6 years of estimating experience, reading plans and specifications, and developing detailed cost estimates for labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors.

This primarily office-based position includes occasional field visits and a typical 7:30 AM–5:00 PM schedule.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate and detailed quantity takeoffs and construction estimates.
• Review and interpret plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, bid forms, addenda, and other contract documents.
• Develop estimates for labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, production rates, and crew costs.
• Solicit, review, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
• Compare pricing and identify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential estimating risks.
• Develop competitive bids while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
• Coordinate with project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders as needed.
• Assist with estimating multiple projects and bid opportunities simultaneously.
• Conduct occasional field visits to better understand project conditions and requirements.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Heavy Civil Estimator with a strong background in underground utilities and infrastructure construction. The ideal candidate will have at least 6 years of estimating experience and a solid understanding of heavy civil construction, quantity takeoffs, project plans, specifications, subcontractor pricing, and detailed cost estimating.

This is a primarily office-based position with occasional field visits, typically once per week or as project needs require.

Key Responsibilities

• Dirt work and excavation
• Large-diameter water lines
• Sanitary sewer
• Storm sewer
• Lift stations
• Strong ability to perform detailed quantity takeoffs.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documents.
• Strong understanding of labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, production rate, and crew cost estimating.
• Ability to solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify scope gaps and discrepancies.
• Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the Houston / Texas heavy civil construction market is strongly preferred.
• Experience with PlanSwift and VU 360 is preferred.
• Candidates may use their preferred estimating software if they have an established workflow.

Please note: This position is focused on heavy civil and underground utility estimating. Plumbing estimating experience alone is not the target background for this role.

Salary: $100,000-$130,000 annually

Working Hours:

7:30 AM-5:00 PM, Monday-Friday

Includes a 1-hour lunch break.

The position is primarily office-based, with field visits approximately once per week or as needed based on project requirements.
