Job summary

Your Specific Responsibilities

This is professional work planning and conducting programs to improve public health. Promotes, maintains and improves individual and/or community health by assisting individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors through education and/or awareness campaigns.

Establishes interventions to address targeted issues of public health significance. Assist with the planning, organizational activities, evaluation and prioritization of the public health programs such as drowning prevention and falls prevention. Examples: perform decision making for program coordination, scheduling, and more. Perform data analysis of programs to ensure they align with the department’s mission and for program efficiency.

Responsible for administration and reporting of county Health Liaison work plan and budget. Attend required Health Liaison trainings. Build cross-sectional partnerships to align public health, healthcare and non-health (e.g. housing) interventions that decrease health disparities and inequities. Identify and establish collaborations with critical partners affiliated with and who provide services to populations that are underserved to disseminate accurate information and facilitate access to health-related services. Work with local faith-based, education, health and social service agencies and other community gatekeepers to increase participation in community outreach, data collection and emergency planning. Convene and facilitate a multi-sector coalition that includes members of underserved communities and organizations that serve that community. Engage partners in building/updating plans with the intention of establishing systems that can also support future emergency responses.

Will serve as Public Information Officer (PIO). In addition will plan and direct development and communication of informational programs designed to keep public informed of agency programs, services, accomplishments, or mission. Prepare and distribute fact sheets, news releases, photographs, scripts, or other written materials, motion pictures, or tape recordings to media representatives and others. Prepares or edits organizational publications.

Assist staff with purchasing needs by providing consultation and advice as it relates to their program by researching products from approved vendors with purchases using My Florida Marketplace. Assists coordinator with Healthy Community & Healthy Babies activities such as workplan, coordination of activities in accordance with established Departmental guidelines and Annual Work Plan.

Collaborates with other departmental staff and program areas, including health education, epidemiology, school health, preparedness, etc. as well as civic groups to ascertain community health needs, determine availability of services, and to develop goals. Promotes health discussions in schools, industry, and community agencies. Develops and maintains cooperation between public, civic, professional, and volunteer agencies.

Performs other related duties as assigned. Responds during emergencies and participates as part of the team to work assigned shelters or staff Emergency Operations Center.

Qualifications

Minimum -.Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
