Job summary

California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) in Chatsworth, CA, seeks a Senior Hazardous Substances Engineer to oversee the Chiquita Canyon Landfill project and provide geotechnical & regulatory oversight. This is a permanent, full-time role serving the Greater Los Angeles area.

The Senior Engineer will manage investigations, evaluate remediation options, and ensure compliance with DTSC orders, while coordinating with parties and maintaining EnviroStor records.

Qualifications

• Licensed Geotechnical Engineer in California preferred.
• Experience with assessment, investigation, or remediation of hazardous substances releases.
• Experience reviewing geotechnical analyses and managing complex projects.
• Experience with environmental regulatory agency oversight and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of investigation and cleanup for assigned sites.
• Review engineering, scientific, and technical work to define contamination and remediation options.
• Plan and manage multiple projects with overlapping deadlines and budgets.
• Prepare schedules and allocate resources for timely completion.
• Estimate oversight costs and track invoice payments from responsible parties.
• Update EnviroStor with major milestones and documents.
