About the Role

At General Motors, our mission is to create a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. Our ADAS Compute hardware team develops innovative technologies like Super Cruise Hands-Free Automated Driving to enhance vehicle safety, performance, and autonomy.

We aim to build the best infotainment experience in GM vehicles by developing a hardware engineering team responsible for the end-to-end design and development of vehicle displays hardware.

The Senior Hardware Design Engineer – Display Development will oversee the technical design and development of the display electronics hardware platform for GM’s next-generation vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a background in automotive ECU architecture, design, analysis, and experience successfully launching infotainment hardware into production.

Responsibilities

  • Design LCD/OLED display electrical hardware, including component selection (MCU, TCON, SERDES), schematic capture, PCB layout, bring-up, debug, signal and power integrity, environmental testing, EMC, and supporting manufacturing and production launch.
  • Develop the display hardware platform from concept to launch, ensuring it meets cost, timing, quality, and safety targets.
  • Understand display backlight units and FOG interfaces for final display assembly.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, mechanical, manufacturing) for seamless integration of display hardware.
  • Work with manufacturing partners to ensure successful build from prototype to mass production, maintaining quality, cost, and schedule.
  • Design electrical schematics and PCB layouts.
  • Support new IC designs relevant to display hardware.
  • Perform hardware analyses such as worst-case, signal integrity, and power integrity.
  • Lead hardware bring-up, including power supplies, SoCs, MCUs, SerDes, and network interfaces.
  • Implement design for manufacturing, assembly, and testing (DFM, DFA, DFT).
  • Validate hardware components and systems for reliability and performance.
  • Establish test plans and protocols to verify design requirements.
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root cause analysis, and develop solutions.
  • Assist manufacturing in resolving production issues.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Lead/support DFMEA/PFMEA processes for display hardware, incorporating lessons learned and best practices.
  • Guide and consult with Design Release Engineers (DREs).
