Qualifications

• 5+ years in machine vision, hardware engineering, industrial automation, or systems integration.
• Hands-on experience deploying industrial cameras in manufacturing environments.
• Strong understanding of cameras, lenses, lighting, image acquisition, GPUs, and edge computing.
• Ability to evaluate environmental constraints like space, vibration, and lighting.

Responsibilities

• Design hardware configurations for industrial computer vision deployments.
• Assess environments to identify constraints and requirements.
• Select cameras, lenses, lighting, mounts, GPUs, edge servers, and networking gear.
• Develop mounts, enclosures, protective housings, and supporting hardware.
• Configure triggering, synchronization, encoders, networking, and edge computing systems.
• Test and validate hardware in pilot and production environments.
• Troubleshoot hardware, camera, alignment, networking, and system-performance issues.
• Create bills of materials, wiring diagrams, configuration documents, and installation procedures.
• Participate in customer site assessments, installations, commissioning, and production validation.
• Partner with computer vision, software, and deployment engineers.

Senior Hardware Applications Engineer, Industrial Vision Systems

Location: Boston, MA | Hybrid, 3 Days Per Week Onsite
Relocation Assistance Available
Compensation: $140,000 to $170,000 Total Compensation, Including Base Salary and Equity

We're partnering with a venture-backed AI technology company building advanced computer vision systems for industrial environments. Its technology solves complex inspection and automation challenges for manufacturers operating at scale.

They're seeking a Senior Hardware Applications Engineer to design and deploy the physical hardware systems required for reliable computer vision applications. This is a hands-on role for someone who has personally deployed industrial cameras and related hardware in real manufacturing environments.

This is not a remote position. Candidates must be located in the Greater Boston area or willing to relocate and work at least three days onsite per week. Relocation assistance is available.

What You'll Do

• Design hardware configurations for industrial computer vision deployments
• Assess manufacturing environments and identify operational, structural, and technical constraints
• Select industrial cameras, lenses, lighting, mounting systems, GPUs, edge servers, and networking equipment
• Develop solutions for camera mounts, enclosures, protective housings, and supporting hardware
• Configure triggering, synchronization, encoders, networking, and edge computing systems
• Test and validate hardware in pilot and production environments
• Troubleshoot hardware, camera, alignment, networking, and system-performance issues
• Create bills of materials, wiring diagrams, configuration documents, and installation procedures
• Participate in customer site assessments, installations, commissioning, and production validation
• Partner with computer vision, software, and deployment engineers

Required Experience

• 5+ years of professional experience in machine vision, hardware engineering, industrial automation, or systems integration
• Direct, hands-on experience deploying industrial cameras in manufacturing environments
• Strong understanding of cameras, lenses, lighting, image acquisition, GPUs, and edge computing
• Experience evaluating factors such as line speed, vibration, ambient lighting, available space, and mounting constraints
• Experience designing or implementing mounts, enclosures, and physical hardware configurations
• Ability to troubleshoot across hardware, networking, cameras, and industrial systems
• Willingness to travel to customer manufacturing sites when required

Candidates whose experience is limited to academic projects, consumer cameras, theoretical optical work, or software-only computer vision will not be considered.

Nice to Have

• Experience with FLIR, Basler, Allied Vision, Teledyne, Cognex, or Keyence systems
• PLC, encoder, sensor, robotics, or industrial network integration
• NVIDIA GPUs and edge computing platforms
• Automated inspection or defect-detection systems
• High-speed manufacturing or production-line experience
