Job summary

Community Teamwork seeks a Senior Group Leader to oversee after-school and before-school care within the School Age Program in Lowell, MA. You will coach youth, assign daily curriculum, and lead operations when the Site Manager is away.

Youth development, safety, and positive behavior support are central to the role, with strong emphasis on collaboration with families and CTI staff.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18+ and have a bachelor's or associate degree with 3 months experience with school-age children; or have a high school diploma and 6 months experience in a school-age program.
  • CorI/SORI/DCF/Fingerprinting clearance is required.
  • Evidence of physical exam within 1 year of hire date.
  • Evidence of immunity to MMR.
  • Participate in a minimum 12 hours of EEC approved training.
  • Willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid as required by EEC.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in charge when the Site Manager is not on site and maintain daily site operations.
  • Assist in implementing policies, maintain attendance records, and follow Early Education and Care Regulations and USDA guidelines.
  • Supervise at all school-age sites as assigned and ensure child safety.
  • Maintain a daily group list, attendance, and calm, respectful communication.
  • Develop and implement weekly curriculum; support youth with life skills and problem-solving.
  • Foster positive behavior and relationships; model professional conduct with youth and families.
  • Participate in collaborative case management and share concerns with leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality and cultural awareness in interactions with youth and families.

Pay Range per hour $ $20.00 - $22.00

Position Summary:

The Senior Group Leader will be responsible for providing before school and after school care for children in CTI's School Age Program. They will receive staffing assignments regarding daily curriculum, provide supervision to children in 1:13 ratio, and act as a coach to the youth enrolled. The Senior Group Leader will act as the site Lead in charge during times when Site Manager is not on site.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  1. Represent as the Lead in charge when a Site Manager is not on site, maintaining site operations.
  2. Assist in implementing program policies and procedures including maintaining accurate attendance and other records, following Early Education and Care Regulations and USDA Guidelines.
  3. Responsible for working at all school age sites as assigned.
  4. Provide supervision and safety of children. Maintain a daily group list and attendance.
  5. Recognize the child enrolled as an individual, helping children to develop as a member of the group.
  6. Present respectful communication and maintain standards for behavior through a positive approach.
  7. Assist in creating the weekly curriculum.
  8. To develop a relationship with the youth in the aim of providing support, guidance, friendship, positive interaction, exposure to positive activities, opportunities to learn life skills and positive problem-solving skills, to ease some of the fear, anger and sadness.
  9. Demonstrate good character, emotional stability, and a responsible lifestyle while in the presence of youth.
  10. Assist with daily activities and follow the daily curriculum plans and schedule.
  11. Maintain clean and organized workspaces that include setting up the daily spaces (i.e.: breaking down tables, rearranging the spaces and cleaning at the end of the day).
  12. Participate in case management of families involved. Share concerns about children and families with Site Manager.
  13. Maintain confidentiality of children and families.
  14. Broaden knowledge of the cultural and ethnic heritage of the children and families served.
Mentoring Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a primary mentor to an assigned group of youth, offering guidance, encouragement, and positive role modeling.
  • Conduct regular check-ins and support individual goal setting to promote personal growth and accountability.
  • Provide homework support and reinforce learning through skill-building and enrichment activities.
  • Foster respectful communication, positive peer interactions, and constructive problem-solving skills.
  • Create a supportive environment that helps youth navigate emotions such as fear, anger, and sadness.
  • Build meaningful relationships that promote trust, resilience, and confidence.
  • Participate in collaborative case management by sharing relevant observations and concerns with leadership.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural awareness in all interactions with youth and families.

Qualifications:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, have a desire to work with youth and meet one of the following: Have a bachelor's or associate degree and 3 months experience working with school age children; or Have a high school diploma or equivalent; and have 6 months experience including 3 months supervised experience at a school age childcare program; or Have nine months experience with school age children including three months supervised experience at a school age childcare program.
