ABRAMS in New York, NY seeks a Senior Designer of Graphic Novels to lead design across major imprints, from concept through production. You will collaborate with art directors, editors, illustrators, and production teams to shape visually compelling books for print and digital formats.

The ideal candidate brings 5–7 years of professional book design with graphic novels experience, a strong portfolio, and mastery of Adobe Creative Suite on Mac. Hybrid workplace with in-office days three per week.

Qualifikationen

• 5–7 years of professional book design experience, including 2–3 years focused on graphic novels, comics, manga, or illustrated narratives.
• A portfolio demonstrating excellence in cover design, typography, page layout, and print production is REQUIRED.
• Excellent project leadership and organizational skills with the ability to lead multiple high‑profile titles simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Highly organized, self-starting approach with the ability to drive complex projects and collaborate across teams.
• Creative, curious, and collaborative mindset with a willingness to mentor others.
• Deep understanding of the graphic novel, comics, manga, and illustrated‑book markets.
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat) on Mac; strong print production knowledge.
• Knowledge of children's publishing, including middle grade, young adult, and crossover audiences.
• Understanding of accessible, inclusive, and age‑appropriate design practices.

Aufgaben

• Provide design leadership, art direction on assigned graphic novel projects from concept through production.
• Design and manage approximately 15-20 graphic novel titles annually, balancing development, schedules, revisions, and production deadlines.
• Oversee freelance designers and letterers, providing direction and feedback throughout the design process.
• Design graphic novel covers and collaborate with creators, editors, and sales teams on market-savvy concepts.
• Guide creators in preparing final artwork meeting design, production, and printer specifications.
• Design interior pages, prepare mechanicals, incorporate corrections, and release approved files to production.
• Review proofs and troubleshoot design, artwork, production, and prepress issues.
• Package, archive, and deliver final files per internal standards and printer requirements.
• Help keep graphic novel guidelines up to date.
