The Institute for Nonprofit Practice (INP) works to ensure that the nation’s nonprofit, public sector, and social impact leaders have the skills, knowledge, networks, and confidence to boldly advance their organizations and missions and build a more equitable future for all. INP serves social impact leaders who are driving solutions to some of the most pressing issues of our time. Nonprofits constitute the third-largest sector of the U.S. workforce – nearly 1 in 10 workers – yet the sector continues to face a chronic deficit of investment in the people who power it. The types of peer-to-peer learning and exchanges that INP offers are needed more than ever as the sector wrestles with a set of challenges that have mounted over the past few years – including workforce shortages, high burnout and turnover rates, and a rising demand for services – that can significantly undermine organizational effectiveness. With an 19-year track record of delivering programs that measurably increase leaders’ key leadership skills, confidence, and networks, INP is committed to meeting this moment by continuing to empower social impact leaders to adapt and thrive amidst these obstacles.
As the Senior Grant Writer, you serve as the primary author and strategist for all grant proposals, letters of intent, prospective funding scenarios, and donor reports. You hold end-to-end accountability for the narrative quality, accuracy, strategic positioning, and timeliness of every institutional submission. Deeply attuned to funder priorities and the nuances of institutional philanthropy, you translate INP’s mission, community impact, and strategic vision into compelling, persuasive narratives that resonate with foundation and corporate partners. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Giving, you are an integral member of a collaborative seven-person development team.
You write well and take pride in your ability to do so, especially when given the opportunity to communicate an idea, topic, or vision that you are passionate about.
You’re nimble and flexible. You possess a positive attitude and identify creative solutions to obstacles. You can juggle many important responsibilities at once and you’re rigorous about prioritizing.
You take the initiative, identifying problems and opportunities across your portfolio, developing recommendations, and taking action on those recommendations.
Nothing is beneath or above you. You are quick to always lend a hand or two! You are able to earn influence without authority and naturally seek to support small projects or large strategic goals.
You operate from the belief that the right coalition of partners can unlock transformative possibilities. You approach relationship building with relentless curiosity and genuine enthusiasm.
You are motivated by social justice and energized by the opportunity to strengthen, connect, and elevate social sector leaders nationwide.
INP provides a competitive salary that is benchmarked annually against Boston-area nonprofits. The hiring range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 annually. The final salary within this range will be determined based on candidate's qualifications and relevant experience. New staff are rarely brought in at the top of the range to ensure internal equity and to leave room for salary growth during an employee’s tenure at the Institute for Nonprofit Practice.
This is a full-time, fully-remote position. Limited travel is expected; 2-4 times per year.
