Job summary

Semrush is seeking a senior backend engineer to drive the development of complex features and to ensure the overall quality and performance of the backend codebase. You will design and maintain scalable APIs and lead code reviews in a fast-growing environment.

You will mentor mid-level and junior developers, improve CI/CD pipelines, and champion best practices across distributed systems and high-performance services. This role emphasizes collaboration and technical excellence at Semrush.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5 years of backend programming experience with Go (2+ years in Go current).
• Expert in Golang with performance tuning and distributed systems.
• Strong API design skills and secure, scalable architectures.
• Good SQL knowledge, PostgreSQL experience and BigQuery a plus.
• Excellent communication and mentoring abilities.

About You

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• 5 years of experience in a backend programming environment (Go, Java, Python, C#, etc.) with at least 2 years’ current experience in Go.
• Expert in Golang with a deep understanding of advanced concepts and performance tuning.
• Mastery in distributed systems, design patterns, and implementation.
• Expert in designing high-performance, secure, and scalable APIs.
• Excellent communication skills, able to articulate complex concepts clearly.
• Exceptional problem-solving abilities, able to tackle the most challenging issues.
• Good understanding of SQL (preferably PostgreSQL), database design, and BigQuery (as a strong plus).
• Collaborative mindset and a strong team player.
• Experienced in mentoring and developing other developers.

Asteria is the team powering the visualization engine for our enterprise solutions. On the backend, this includes optimizing ASTs, typechecking, and filtering, as well as continuously developing and maintaining the builders behind our dynamic elements, pages, and our proprietary query language.
