Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a seasoned GN&C team lead for the Transporter vehicle. You will head the GNC team, own design decisions, and drive development across flight hardware and software life cycles. You will coordinate with subsystem groups to meet performance goals and manage budgets, schedules, and staff development.

You will mentor engineers and ensure products meet industry and internal standards. The position requires strong leadership, hands-on GN&C expertise, and a proven record delivering

Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of design experience.
  • Advanced knowledge in development of spacecraft GN&C systems.
  • Experience with the full development lifecycle of a GN&C subsystem on at least one aerospace program.
  • Extensive experience developing and analyzing GN&C algorithms and flight software.

Job description

  • Serve as the single-threaded leader for the Transporter vehicle’s guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) team
  • Report to the vehicle program director
  • Manage people, processes, and tools for the GNC team
  • Oversee development and delivery of flight hardware and GNC flight software
  • Ensure accuracy and efficiency of GNC analysis products
  • Hire, coach, mentor, and develop staff
  • Manage performance, merits, promotions, career growth, and technical development
  • Ensure team work products meet domain quality standards and benchmark standards and tools against other Blue Origin business units and industry trends
  • Lead and approve GN&C subsystem technical design decisions
  • Collaborate with other subsystem teams to coordinate designs and meet vehicle performance requirements
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate GN&C subsystem risks
  • Coordinate subsystem-level design, analysis, and testing through development, verification, delivery, and operation
  • Make technical, programmatic, and personnel decisions using quantitative metrics
  • Automate and streamline work scope
  • Develop and manage subsystem-level budgets and schedules
  • Integrate with other subsystems to create efficient, integrated technical solutions
  • Establish subsystem priorities aligned with company, business unit, and vehicle objectives
  • Review engineering changes, variances, non-conformances, problem reports, and action items
  • Develop strategic plans leveraging capabilities and hardware common across Blue Origin vehicles
  • Author reports, define plans, and communicate technical problems and solutions to leadership
Requirements
  • M.S. degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related subject areas
  • At least 10 years of design experience
  • Advanced knowledge in development of spacecraft GN&C systems
  • Experience with the full development lifecycle of a GN&C subsystem on at least one aerospace program
  • Extensive experience developing and analyzing GN&C algorithms and flight software
  • Experience developing and testing navigation sensors and control actuators
  • Knowledge and experience developing rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking missions
  • Experience developing bottoms-up staffing plans, labor and hardware cost estimates, and end-to-end schedules from conceptual design through hardware/software flight certification
  • Experience in personnel management, including performance management, career growth, and establishing individual and team expectations and goals
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized and capable of guiding complex technical work
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, driven environment
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee
  • Passion for Blue Origin’s mission and vision
  • Preferred: Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or related subject areas
  • Preferred: Experience leading the full GN&C subsystem development lifecycle
  • Preferred: Advanced knowledge of planetary spacecraft GN&C systems
  • Preferred: Experience with NASA certification of flight readiness for a new system
  • Preferred: Experience with large complex programs involving multiple partners
  • Preferred: Experience with Trick and Core Flight System
