Job summary

Western Flyer Express is seeking an Assistant Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of accounting experience, plus management experience and trucking/transportation industry know-how.

This role focuses on internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and financial reporting. Strong QuickBooks and MS Excel skills, along with a solid understanding of data integrity, are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years experience working in an accounting role.
• Prior management experience required.
• Prior experience in trucking industry highly preferred.
• CPA preferred.
• Bachelor’s Degree required.
• Experience in Great Plains Accounting System preferred.
• Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office Suite).
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary work product.
• Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Responsibilities

• Audits work flow to ensure that all accounting transactions are processed accurately and in compliance with industry standards.
• Assist in the month end closing and financial reporting process.
• Assist in special projects as necessary.
• Assists controller with a variety of tasks as needed.
• Ensures compliance with all internal controls.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
• Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
• Must be able to lift, move and carry banker’s boxes of documents, up to 20lbs.
• Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone.
