Job summary

CDM Smith in Rhode Island is seeking a PE-licensed geotechnical/civil engineer with about 7 years of related experience to lead complex foundation and earthwork designs. You will review designs for regulatory compliance, guide junior staff, and collaborate with clients on diverse projects in geotechnical and geo-environmental disciplines.

The role involves site reviews, soil analyses, and producing technical design documentation while engaging with sales on proposals and industry conferences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in geotechnical, civil, mining or geologic engineering or related discipline.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 7 years of related experience; travel may be required.

Responsibilities

• With general direction, creates excavation, dewatering, shallow/deep foundations, dams/reservoirs/levees, geo-environmental projects.
• Engineering designs of basic to high complexity to meet client project requirements.
• Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations and signs off on completed designs.
• Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
• Performs site reviews and studies to ensure designs align with location specifications.
• Updates design requirements as necessary.
• Performs soil sampling analyses and modeling.
• Contributes to firm's technical literature and design documentation.
• Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to client requests for proposal (RFPs).
• Reviews draft proposals for adherence to regulations and best practices.
• Meets with current and potential clients to review design needs.
• Attends conferences to improve visibility of the firm's products and services.
• Provides technical guidance and training to junior staff.
• Mentors junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
• May supervise the work of junior engineers on project work.
