Job Description

Dewberry is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with at least 10 years of experience to work in our Eastern, Central, or Western PA locations. The successful candidate will be part of a team designing simple and complex bridges and a variety of transportation-related structures. The candidate will perform geotechnical field reconnaissance, prepare and administer boring contracts, perform geotechnical calculations, and prepare Geotechnical and Foundation Recommendation Reports. The candidate will also be involved in the development of proposals, contract plans, the preparation of engineer's estimates and construction specifications, and performing construction support services.

Responsibilities
  • Performs geotechnical related design for transportation projects including slope stability.
  • Prepares Subsurface Exploration Planning Submissions, Foundation Recommendation Reports and other geotechnical related reports.
  • Coordinates with bridge structural designers.
  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams of professionals on large design projects.
  • Leads strategy and capture planning on pursuits of large design projects.
  • Communicates with clients, establishes goals and objectives for project teams, and schedules and coordinates resources to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to the performance expectations of the client.
Required Skills & Required Experience
  • BS in Civil Engineering (with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering), MS or PhD degree preferable.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike Commission.
  • Experience in the use of PennDOT design specifications and AASHTO.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam is required (PE preferred).
  • Proficiency using CADD (Microstation preferred).
  • Proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • A desire to work in a team environment.
  • Proficient in the use of LPile, GRLweap, DRIVEN, SLIDE and gINT.
  • Experience with structure related foundation design for transportation projects including:
    • Bridges
    • Retaining Walls
    • Culverts
    • Reinforced Soil Slopes
    • Temporary Shoring
    • Sign Structures
    • Contract Plans
    • Engineer’s Estimates
    • Construction Specifications
    • Shop Drawing Review
  • Driving is a requirement of the position. A clean driving record is required.
