Job summary

The Boring Company is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to lead geotechnical design and analysis for tunnel projects in Las Vegas. You will guide ground investigations, tunnel lining design, and settlement analyses, shaping standards for future cities.

Role includes travel up to 20%, extended hours, and collaboration with a bold, mission-driven team advancing subterranean technology. Nevada PE or Texas PE is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of tunnel inspection experience.
  • Master of Science in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create geotechnical data reports, interpretation reports, and design reports for tunnel and shaft construction.
  • Create temporary support of excavation designs, reports and drawings.
  • Produce tunnel lining design documentation, including lateral earth pressure calculations.
  • Perform ground settlement and construction impact analysis of subsurface structures and utilities.
  • Create and oversee the implementation of settlement monitoring plans.
  • Plan and execute geotechnical investigations.
  • Assist in collection and review of as-built drawings and geotechnical data for subsurface due diligence.

Job description

The Boring Company was founded to solve the problem of soul‑destroying traffic by creating an underground network of tunnels. Today, we are creating the technology to increase tunneling speed and decrease costs by a factor of 10 or more with the ultimate goal of making Hyperloop adoption viable and enabling rapid transit across densely populated regions.

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing the underground infrastructure that powers some of the world's most ambitious tunneling projects. You'll lead the geotechnical design and analysis behind every tunnel we build in Las Vegas, while helping shape the standards and engineering approach for future projects across new cities. From ground investigations and tunnel lining design to solving complex subsurface challenges, you'll have a direct impact on technology that's redefining how cities move.

Responsibilities
  • Create geotechnical data reports, geotechnical interpretation reports, geotechnical design reports for tunnel and shaft construction.
  • Create temporary support of excavation designs, reports, and drawings.
  • Produce tunnel lining design documentation, including lateral earth pressure calculations.
  • Perform ground settlement and construction impact analysis of subsurface structures (e.g., shafts, tunnels) and 3rd party infrastructure (e.g., buildings, utilities).
  • Create and oversee the implementation of settlement monitoring plans.
  • Plan and execute geotechnical investigations.
  • Assist in the collection and review of as-built drawings and existing geotechnical data for subsurface due diligence.
  • Provide geotechnical recommendations for construction means and methods.
  • Perform construction period observation and inspection.
  • Support brick operations with geotechnical recommendations and testing oversight.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of tunnel inspection experience.
Preferred Skills And Experience
  • Master of Science in Geotechnical or Structural Engineering.
  • Nevada PE or Texas PE.
  • Coursework in Geotechnical engineering (soils and rock), engineering, structural analysis, foundation engineering, hydrology, earthquake engineering, tunnel engineering, reinforced concrete, steel design, constituent modeling.
  • Preliminary and final analysis and design experience (geotechnical investigation, slope stability analysis, support of excavation, construction impact to adjacent buildings and utilities, providing geotechnical design parameter recommendations).
Additional Requirements
  • Position may require extended hours and weekend work.
  • Able to travel for short and extended trips as needed. Up to 20% travel.
