Job summary

Murphy Oil Corporation in Houston, TX is seeking a Sr Staff Geoscientist to lead exploration and development efforts in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

The role emphasizes seismic interpretation, regional mapping, and integration of well control with subsurface data to support development and infill wells, with collaboration across Drilling, Subsurface and Regulatory teams.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Geology or Geophysics required.
  • Minimum 16 years’ oil and gas exploration and development experience with 10 years in Deepwater GOA preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in 3D seismic interpretation and well-log correlation in salt basins.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team and across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and recommend drilling of new wells and infill wells to effectively and efficiently produce field(s).
  • Interpret seismic and well logs, generate maps and cross sections, conduct risk and reserve/resource analysis, and present supporting work to management.
  • Pre-drill well preparation and planning; interface with Drilling, Subsurface, Regulatory and Partners.
  • Assist with well planning and provide operations support in drilling/rig program and update field results and reserves as needed.
  • Peer assist; collaboration both within the team and external support.
