Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a geomechanical engineer to oversee slope stability programs at our Arizona operations. The role emphasizes collaboration with outside consultants, data analysis, and safety-focused decision-making.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years in hard rock mining, strong knowledge of geomechanics, and proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and MineSight. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package and on-site work at the Globe-Miami region.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mine, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering or related engineering discipline with 5 years of hard rock mining experience.
• Master's degree in related engineering discipline with 3 years of hard rock mining experience.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Ability to analyze complex information and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to identify hazards and promote safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide geomechanical project oversight and review with outside consultants and internal teams.
• Review slope stability data collection, analysis, and remedial work including rock strength and slope monitoring.
• Communicate slope stability information to mine and site personnel in a timely manner.

What You Will Do

• Provides geomechanical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning.
• Reviews slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews.
• Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and geomechanical information to mine and site personnel.
• Conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles, and site access roads.
• Proactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geomechanical data acquisition and analyses.
• Assists with the development, maintenance and implementations of strategic plans to enhance the mine’s slope stability program.
• May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to geomechanical or mine slope stability efforts.
• Overall property slope management functions for pit slopes, and stockpiles.
• Manage and provide Geomechanical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning.
• Manage and review slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angel reviews.
• Manage, conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles and site access roads.
• Develop, maintain and implement strategic plans to enhance the mine’s slope stability program.
• Usage of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis, Mintec’s MineSight (or equivalent)
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering disciplineandfive (5) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability,OR
• Master's degree in Mine Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related Engineering disciplineandthree (3) years of Engineering experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of Engineering
• Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

• M.S. Degree in Mining, Geological, or Geotechnical Engineering with a minimum 7 years of experience in hard rock mining relating to rock mechanics and rock slope stability.
• Experience in managing a hard-rock mine geomechanical program

What We Offer You

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$97,500.00-$138,000.00. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
