Job summary

Citigroup Inc. seeks a Staff Generative AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy real-world AI systems at scale. This individual contributor role focuses on hands-on development of cutting-edge generative models, agentic workflows, and production deployments within OpenShift environments.

You will collaborate with teams to push the boundaries of AI capabilities while maintaining rigorous engineering standards and responsible AI practices, in a hybrid New York setting.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Pioneer automation with agents: Design and implement intelligent agents capable of understanding, reasoning, and orchestrating complex workflows to automate critical enterprise business processes, driving efficiency and reducing operational risk at scale.
• Build Production Systems: Lead hands-on development of sophisticated Generative AI applications, LLM-powered solutions, and intricate agentic frameworks primarily using Python. Code must be clean, scalable, and deployed to production.
• Master Containerized Deployments: Demonstrate deep comfort with container technologies, especially OpenShift deployments.
• Champion Engineering Excellence: Enforce robust testing, code reviews, documentation, and CI/CD for mission-critical systems in production.
• Innovate & Research: Stay at the bleeding edge of Generative AI, explore new models and frameworks with Devin and Copilot tools.

The Role:

We are seeking an exceptionalStaff Generative AI Engineerto join our team. This is a critical,deeply hands-onrole for a seasoned software engineer with a profound passion for Generative AI, Large Language Models (LLMs), and agentic frameworks. You will be instrumental in designing, building, and deployingreal-world, commercial production systems, not just proofs-of-concept.

This is an Individual Contributor (IC) role with no direct people management responsibilities.

Yourexpertisein containers (especially OpenShift), strong Python programming, and advanced LLM/agentic frameworks will be essential as you drive significant operational efficiencies and set new standards for engineering excellence. As a Staff Generative AI Engineer, you will:

Python Engineering
6+ years of software engineering experience with expert-level Python
Strong grasp of clean code, data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems
Generative AI, LLMs & Agentic Frameworks
Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, and transformer architectures
Proficiency in frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, and Google ADK
Ability to build intelligent agents that automate complex enterprise workflows
Ability to design data layers optimized for AI/ML and RAG workloads
Containerized Production Deployments (OpenShift)
Proven track record deploying and managing large-scale AI/ML systems in production
Strong CI/CD and software engineering best practices
