Job description

Senior GCP CloudOps Engineer

Job Location: US-Remote

ID: 2026-19370

Category: Engineering/IT

Position Type: Full-time

Overview

We are seeking a Senior GCP Cloud Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. This senior-level role is responsible for the operational stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of Cotiviti's cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform. The Senior GCP Cloud Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in cloud operations, leading incident response efforts, driving automation of operational workflows, and establishing best practices for monitoring, alerting, and performance management across GCP environments. This individual will work cross-functionally with engineering, security, and product teams to ensure our cloud platform is scalable, secure, and resilient - and will mentor junior team members to grow the team's overall operational capability.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and lead day-to-day cloud operations practices for production GCP environments (GKE, Compute Engine, Cloud Run, Cloud SQL), building the foundational processes and standards that ensure long-term availability, performance, and reliability - including on-call rotations and incident response via Cloud Monitoring and PagerDuty integrations.
  • Build and mature the team's incident response capabilities; serve as technical lead during escalations, driving root cause analysis and post-incident reviews using Cloud Logging, Error Reporting, and Cloud Monitoring to establish repeatable, preventive practices.
  • Architect and implement the organization's observability foundation - defining standards for monitoring, alerting, and tracing across GCP infrastructure and applications using Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, and Cloud Trace.
  • Lead the development of automation frameworks and tooling (Terraform, Python, Go) that reduce operational toil and establish scalable, repeatable workflows across GCP, leveraging Cloud Build, Cloud Scheduler, and GitOps practices.
  • Create and own GCP operations standards, runbooks, and SOPs from the ground up; build a documentation culture that enables the team to operate consistently and scale knowledge effectively.
  • Partner with security teams to design and implement GCP security controls (IAM, Workload Identity, VPC Service Controls, Cloud Armor, CMEK), establishing HIPAA-compliant patterns and guardrails aligned with GCP's shared responsibility model.
  • Work closely with engineering and architecture teams to shape GCP infrastructure design (Shared VPC, Private Service Connect, Cloud Load Balancing), embedding operability and reliability standards into how new systems are built from the start.
  • Own capacity planning, cost optimization, and resource governance across GCP environments; use Cloud Asset Inventory, Recommender, and BigQuery billing exports to build visibility and controls as the platform grows.
  • Evaluate emerging GCP services and technologies - including areas like Vertex AI infrastructure, Apigee, and Chronicle SIEM - and make strategic recommendations that position the platform for scale and long-term efficiency.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level cloud engineers, establishing a team culture of GCP best practices, shared ownership, and continuous learning as the platform and team grow together.
  • Complete all responsibilities as outlined in the annual performance review and/or goal setting.
  • Complete all special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to perform duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and is not to be construed as an exhaustive list of responsibilities, duties and skills required. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement and is subject to change as the needs of Cotiviti and requirements of the job change.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field required; Master's preferred.

Certifications

  • GCP certifications strongly preferred (e.g., Google Professional Cloud Architect, Google Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer, Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer; Google Associate Cloud Engineer accepted for candidates with strong hands-on GCP experience).

Minimum Related Work Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in cloud operations, infrastructure engineering, or a related role.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience managing GCP environments in production, including Compute Engine, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, VPC/Shared VPC, IAM, Cloud Monitoring, and related services.
  • 3+ years of experience with automation and scripting using Python, Go, or Bash.
  • 3+ years of experience with infrastructure-as-code tools, Terraform on GCP strongly preferred; Deployment Manager familiarity a plus.
  • Strong experience with monitoring, alerting, and observability platforms including Cloud Monitoring, Cloud Logging, Cloud Trace; experience with Datadog, Splunk, or PagerDuty a plus
  • Demonstrated experience leading incident response and conducting root cause analysis in complex cloud environments.
  • Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible) and GCP-native automation via Cloud Build or Cloud Scheduler.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices using Cloud Build, Artifact Registry, and Cloud Deploy; GitOps workflows a plus.
  • Experience with container technologies and orchestration platforms, specifically Docker and GKE (Google Kubernetes Engine); Cloud Run experience a plus.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and VPNs - with hands-on GCP experience across Cloud Load Balancing, Cloud Armor, Private Service Connect, and VPC peering.
  • Experience with cloud cost management and optimization strategies using GCP tools such as Cloud Asset Inventory, Recommender, and BigQuery billing export.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex operational issues for both technical and non-technical audiences.
