Job summary

Way.com is seeking a Senior Engineer to own and evolve our Node.js-based platform powering thousands of merchant locations. You will build scalable backend systems and user-facing applications that drive the merchant ecosystem and customer experiences.

This in-office role at our Fremont headquarters includes regular visits to deployed SaaS sites and partner locations, plus an 8am–8pm on-call rotation to keep systems reliable during peak hours.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years building full-stack applications.
• Node.js backend architecture experience with Express or NestJS.
• Frontend skills with React or similar framework.
• Experience designing relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• In-office work at headquarters with field visits for integrations.
• Available for on-call duty (8am–8pm) and travel to sites.

Responsibilities

• Full-stack development of backend services, APIs, and frontend features using Node.js and React.
• Collaborate on scalable architecture for high-throughput transactions and real-time reporting.
• Visit merchant sites to understand workflows, troubleshoot integrations, and gather insights.
• Respond to production incidents during on-call shifts; diagnose and deploy fixes.
• Establish testing, documentation, and code review practices; mentor junior engineers.
• Monitor health, optimize database queries, and improve platform performance.
