Job summary

Medium seeks a Senior Full Stack AI Engineer to join a small, high-impact team at the intersection of product engineering and AI-driven solutions. You will own ideas to production, spanning backend, frontend, architecture, and AI-enabled features.

You’ll work on improving an existing Python-based application and building new AI-powered solutions, prototyping and shipping quickly while applying strong engineering judgment and best practices.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Python production experience.
• 5+ years of system design and architecture experience, including trade-offs.
• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Codex, Claude) in real workflows.
• 3+ years of experience integrating APIs, including AI or data-driven services.
• 3+ years of frontend experience with React and modern JavaScript/HTML.
• 3+ years of experience owning features or products end-to-end, from concept to delivery.
• Strong understanding of SDLC, engineering best practices, and code quality standards.
• 2+ years of experience prototyping quickly and delivering at pace.
• 5+ years of stakeholder communication and translating business needs into technical solutions.
• 2+ years of UX flows and usability principles.
• 3+ years of experience with databases and data modeling.
• 3+ years of experience handling data pipelines or ETL processes.

Responsibilities

• Translate ambiguous stakeholder requirements into structured solutions, user flows, and deliverables
• Design system architecture, making decisions around scalability, maintainability, and security
• Build and deliver end-to-end features across frontend and backend with full ownership
• Rapidly prototype AI-enabled solutions and evolve them into production-ready systems
• Improve and scale an existing Python-based application, addressing backlog, performance, and UX gaps
• Define and implement UX flows and usability improvements (not visual design, but user journeys)
• Integrate with APIs, including AI-driven services, and design robust data flows

It’s a highly autonomous, product‑focused position where you’ll take ownership from idea to production, working across backend, frontend, architecture, and AI‑enabled features. You’ll operate in a fast‑paced, low‑process environment, translating ambiguous stakeholder needs into working solutions while balancing rapid delivery with long‑term quality.

You’ll work across both improving an existing Python‑based application and building new AI‑powered solutions, often prototyping and shipping within short timeframes.
