Job summary

Selara is hiring frontend engineers to work on VA.gov, the digital front door for the Department of Veterans Affairs. You will build user-facing features in a large React codebase, with modern TypeScript, and help migrate toward newer patterns. This is remote work for a US-based candidate, with staff-level scope for architectural influence.

You will collaborate with a distributed team, improve accessibility, and drive migrations that outlast any single feature.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building production React applications using modern patterns.
• Fluency in TypeScript and current JavaScript tooling.
• Experience shipping accessible interfaces with accessibility as a requirement.
• Experience integrating with and debugging REST APIs.
• Strong testing instincts across unit, component, and end-to-end layers.
• Comfort with Git-based collaboration, code reviews, and CI on GitHub.
• Clear written communication in a distributed remote team.
• For staff, history of leading architecture decisions and raising engineering bar.

Responsibilities

• Build and ship user-facing features in the VA.gov frontend.
• Write modern React with function components, hooks, and TypeScript; migrate older patterns.
• Compose interfaces from the VA Design System to meet WCAG 2.1 AA and Section 508.
• Integrate with REST APIs and manage loading, error, and offline states.
• Strengthen test coverage with component and end-to-end tests; improve test suites.
