Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer II for its Optical Systems in Chantilly, VA. You will design FPGA logic for space payloads, and collaborate with hardware and software teams across development, bring-up, and testing stages.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, 8+ years of FPGA firmware experience in VHDL, and eligibility for a U.S. government security clearance. This position is based in Chantilly with opportunities to contribute to mission-critical defense and space programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent
• 8+ years of experience in writing FPGA firmware from scratch in VHDL
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance

Responsibilities

• Work with the hardware design team on requirements.
• Complete FPGA logic design, coding, simulation, and testing.
• Support hardware and software development teams in bring-up and test of products.
• Provide subject-matter expertise regarding design and automated test development procedures to customers and production support team.
• Perform research and analysis of data to determine design approach and feasibility.
• Execute debugging of the design in the lab.
• Perform synthesis, implementation, and timing analysis.
