Job summary

CAL FIRE seeks a Forester III to manage and direct forest, range, and watershed activities within an administrative area. The role includes supervising staff and overseeing large resource programs, as well as responding to inquiries from legislators, advocacy groups, and citizens.

The position involves planning and directing complex management tasks, with responsibilities that may cover statewide programs and coordination during the fire season.

Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid driver license.
  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours under stressful conditions, especially during the fire season.
  • Ability to meet physical and medical standards established by the Department.
  • Color vision and visual acuity sufficient to perform duties.
  • Ability to perform and exercise good judgment under emergencies.
  • Ability to operate specialized equipment (computers, fire apparatus, vehicles, cameras).

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and direct forest, range, and watershed management activities.
  • Supervise the review and processing of timber harvesting plans.
  • Administer regional or statewide resource management programs.
  • Possibly supervise a staff of Foresters and oversee large programs.
  • Respond to inquiries from legislators, advocacy groups, and citizens.
