Job summary

The Materials Laboratory in Mooresville, NC, a Rimkus Consulting Group facility, seeks a senior-level forensic materials consultant with extensive lab experience. Lead root cause analyses, corrosion investigations, welding evaluations, and materials characterization across industries, while providing technical leadership and project oversight.

You will generate client reports, provide expert input for deposition and testimony, and mentor lab staff in advanced materials testing techniques.

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in metallurgy or materials science with strong laboratory experience.
• Professional engineering license or ability to obtain licensure.
• 10+ years of materials lab testing experience with ferrous, nonferrous, polymeric, ceramic, glass, and composite materials a plus.
• Hands-on experience with optical/digital microscopy and SEM/EDS; knowledge of fractography and metallography.
• Strong project management, field investigation, and ability to generate conclusions from data.

Responsibilities

• Perform materials science and engineering analyses within defined scope and budget.
• Lead laboratory investigations using SEM-EDS, FTIR, DSC, OES, TGA, fractography, and metallography.
• Conduct field investigations to determine origin and cause of defects or damage.
• Gather data from tests and materials characterization for analysis.
• Produce written technical reports detailing findings and causes of defects or damage.
• Manage multiple projects and coordinate with team members to deliver client reports on time.
• Educate technicians and engineers on proper materials science applications.
