Job summary

CGS is seeking a Senior FOIA Paralegal to support the legal mission of a large federal agency. This role emphasizes FOIA request processing, document review, and litigation support, including searching, redaction, coding, and legal research under tight deadlines.

Ideal candidates hold a paralegal certificate or JD, have experience with Nuix Investigate/Relativity, and are eligible for a government security clearance. The team operates in a fast-paced, federal environment.

Qualifications

  • Paralegal certificate, JD, or current attendance in an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience; trial experience is very helpful.
  • Experience with FOIA rules and exemptions; ability to apply FOIA exemptions.

Senior FOIA Paralegal

Employment Type: Full Time, Mid-Level | Department: Legal

CGS is seeking a Senior FOIA Paralegal to support the legal mission of a large federal agency. This position allows candidates to demonstrate expertise in legal review and FOIA request processing, among other litigation support tasks.

Skills and attributes for success
  • Conduct searches and analyze result sets to separate non-responsive documents from responsive documents and screen responsive documents for privilege or FOIA exemptions.
  • Redact and code responsive documents.
  • Perform legal research.
  • Draft legal documents.
Qualifications
  • Paralegal certificate, JD, or current attendance in an ABA‑accredited law school with at least one year of study.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience; trial experience is very helpful.
  • Experience with Nuix Investigate, Relativity, and/or other eDiscovery and document review tools strongly desired.
  • Experience processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of FOIA rules and regulations; applying exemptions.
  • Basic legal knowledge, including standard legal citation and use of LEXIS and Westlaw for research.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency with word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
  • Basic familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Eligibility to obtain a government security clearance.
Ideally, you will also have
  • Two years experience using Nuix Investigate for document review and tagging.
  • Two years experience processing FOIA requests for Federal agencies.
  • Fluency in the statutory and regulatory guidelines for FOIA responses.
