Job summary

LASP, part of the University of Colorado Boulder, seeks a Principal System Engineer to lead the development of flight instruments across missions, balancing science objectives with technical risk.

You will mentor engineers, define architectures, own requirements, and oversee verification, environmental testing, and instrument reviews, collaborating with scientists and mission partners.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible aerospace systems engineering experience.
  • Experience leading development of a flight instrument.
  • Experience with requirements development, interface control, and verification.
  • Experience through environmental testing and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical authority for the flight instrument across formulation, development, integration, launch, and commissioning.
  • Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams spanning mechanical, electrical, optical, thermal, software, I&T, contamination control, reliability, and science.
  • Define and evolve the instrument technical architecture.
  • Own instrument requirements, interfaces, verification planning, and technical baseline.
  • Lead instrument technical reviews.
  • Participate in spacecraft-to-instrument interface definitions and spacecraft interactions.
