Job summary

Shield AI seeks an experienced flight controls engineer to contribute to XBAT's control laws and 6DOF simulation environments. You will verify, validate, and refine control performance across flight regimes, and support flight tests with cross‑disciplinary teams.

Required 6+ years in flight controls/GNC, strong C++/MATLAB/Simulink or Python skills, and ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance. Experience with HIL, model-based design, and rapid iteration is highly valued.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in flight controls/GNC on real flight vehicles, with demonstrated contributions from design through test.
• Experience implementing time-accurate 6DOF vehicle models including aerodynamics, mass properties, propulsion, sensors, and actuators.
• Proficiency in C++, MATLAB/Simulink, and/or Python for control design, simulation, and validation.
• Experience with inner/outer-loop control design, control allocation, and real-time trajectory generation.
• Proven ability to perform verification/validation, Monte Carlo analyses, HIL testing, and data-driven refinement.
• Ability to obtain/maintain a U.S. security clearance.
• Autonomous systems or missile/UAV GNC background preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement flight control laws across multiple flight regimes.
• Build and mature high-fidelity 6DOF simulation environments for control development.
• Run verification activities including Monte Carlo campaigns and HIL validation.
• Diagnose simulation-to-test mismatches and modeling gaps.
• Support flight test operations and iterate rapidly between flights.
• Collaborate with propulsion, aero, actuation, sensors, state estimation, and autonomy teams.
• Mentor and up‑skill junior engineers.
