Shield AI is seeking a Senior Staff Engineer to own the flight control actuation system design for a Group 5 UAV fighter aircraft. You will define requirements, perform trade analyses, and drive qualified actuation hardware from design to production support.

The ideal candidate will have 8–15 years in flight control actuation, strong autonomy, and a track record in actuator dynamics, integration with flight controls and VMS, and experience with MIL-HDBK-516 / MIL-STD-810 in defense programs.

Qualifications

• 8 to 15 years of flight control actuation system design experience on fixed-wing aircraft.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field.
• Proven ability to source aerospace components and drive suppliers to schedule; build benchtop or vehicle tests.
• Demonstrated autonomy with ability to self-direct and deliver hardware under tight timelines.
• Experience with actuator dynamic performance analysis: bandwidth, response, stability margins, and redundancy.
• Experience coordinating with flight controls and VMS engineers on actuator-control law integration.
• Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516 and MIL-STD-810 and supporting SRR, PDR, and CDR on DoD or fighter-class programs.

Responsabilités

• Define and own FCAS requirements, verification traceability, and test planning per applicable standards.
• Design and analyze actuator systems: sizing, dynamic response, bandwidth, redundancy, failure modes.
• Integrate actuator control laws with Flight Controls and Vehicle Management Systems.
• Lead power and thermal integration with EPS and hydraulics; address heat and thermal interfaces.
• Coordinate with structures to manage hinge moments and actuator loads.
• Plan and execute FCAS qualification tests per MIL-HDBK-516 and MIL-STD-810; drive hardware maturation.
• Lead design maturity and qualification-status reviews at SRR, PDR, and CDR.
