City of Winston-Salem is seeking a journeyman level mechanic to diagnose and repair diesel vehicles, including medium to large trucks and construction equipment. The role requires completion of complex repairs and adherence to safety policies.

Candidates should have two years of automotive repair experience, 4 ASE certificates within 2 years, and a CDL within 12 months. A complete set of hand tools is expected.

Qualifikationen

• Two years' experience in the repair of automotive equipment.
• Completion of 10 training courses in automotive repair from a community college, vocational school, or automotive dealer/retailer, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

General Definition of Work

Performs journeyman level mechanical work. Performs diagnostics and completes complicated major repairs that require significant mechanical knowledge and skill, and related work as apparent or assigned. Vehicles are mainly diesel and will include medium to large trucks and off-road construction equipment.

Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions

• Completes preventative maintenance services and tune ups
• Prepares new vehicles for service
• Repairs air conditioning systems, complicated brake systems such as anti-lock brakes, and other major repair tasks
• Maintains safe work zones and follows applicable safety policies and procedures

Education and Experience

Two years' experience in the repair of automotive equipment, completion of 10 training courses in automotive repair from a community college, vocational school, or automotive dealer/retailer, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Four (4) ASE certificates required to be obtained within two (2) years of employment

• Valid Commercial Driver’s License within 12 months of employment.

• Must have complete set of mechanics hand tools.

High School diploma/GED strongly preferred, additional ASE certificated preferred, tanker endorsement preferred, additional formal training preferred.

Physical Requirements
