Job summary

Howard County Government seeks experienced fitness instructors to independently lead adult group exercise classes for older adults at 50+ centers and residential communities. The role requires a certified group exercise or personal training credential, plus 2+ years of instruction and CPR/First Aid certification.

Training may vary by class; a service agreement with the county is required. Instructors will promote safety, inclusivity, and wellness, modify routines as needed, and maintain

Qualifications

• Primary group exercise or personal training certification from a nationally accredited organization (or relevant degree) with two years of group exercise instruction.
• Current CPR & First Aid Certification.
• Specialty training may be required for some classes.

Responsibilities

• Plan and lead group adult exercise sessions at multiple 50+ Center locations and residential communities.
• Create a safe, enjoyable environment and adapt for all fitness levels.
• Maintain attendance records and follow county policies.
• Provide modifications for individuals with limited mobility or English proficiency.
• Set up/monitor equipment; ensure safe return and injury prevention.
• Stay informed on wellness trends to support participants' goals.
• Lead evidence-based exercise classes when required.
• Help clients improve quality of life through appropriate exercise.
