The Opportunity

The Senior Firmware Engineeris a key member of the team responsible for the realization of our Airfield 4.0 Connected Solutions products.This position is primarily responsible for the embedded application and development processes to analyze, design, develop, integrate, test, document, and maintain embedded products. The Senior Firmware Engineer will provide technical leadership for the embedded software/firmware development process. This includes the development of requirements, system design, hardware selection, coding, hardware integration, verification and validation.

You will make an impact by…

  • Performing complex design, hardware selection, implementation, maintenance, enhancement, testing, and support of firmware/software.
  • Collaborating with electrical engineers to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the optimal use of electrical components.
  • Completing models and simulations, using manual or automated tools, to analyze or predict system performance under different operating conditions.
  • Verifying stability, interoperability, security, or scalability of system architecture.
  • Developing the firmware/software test requirements for complex modules under development and execute test specifications.
  • Performing reviews of specifications and other documentation to determine firmware/software engineering requirements and estimations of effort.
  • Providing advice on project costs, design concepts, or design changes.
  • Documenting design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-related information.
  • Updating job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Performing presentations of complex technical findings and developments.

The talent we want to inspire has…

  • Capability and desire to work with either off-the-shelf or custom-made hardware
  • At least 5 years of industrial experience with developing embedded software applications in C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Strong knowledge of embedded systems design practices, both SW and HW
  • Experience with developing software applications in C/C++ for ARM cortex-M based systems (bare-metal or RTOS based)
  • Good knowledge and experience with version control tools such as git as well as DevOps pipelines
  • Knowledge and prior experience with automated software testing (unit, integration, system, etc)
  • Knowledge and prior experience with scripting (python/bash) for testing and prototyping purposes
  • Strong English communication skills (spoken and written)
  • Desire to write proper code documentation
  • Occasional travel (5-10%) for field troubleshooting or data collection, both in the US and Internationally.

Plus but not a must…

  • Knowledge and prior industrial experience with ARM cortex-A, ARM Cortex-M, PIC, and FPGA based embedded systems
  • Experience with developing software applications in C/C++ for ARM cortex-M based systems (bare-metal or RTOS based)
  • Strong knowledge on TCP/IP stack layers and has prior experience with socket programming in C/C++
  • Knowledge and prior experience with build frameworks such as CMake, Yocto, etc..
  • Knowledge on M2M protocols such as LWM2M or MQTT is a strong asset
  • Board bring-up experience of custom hardware solutions
  • Knowledge and experience in device driver (Linux kernel) development
  • Experience with analog signal processing
