Job summary

Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. (WJE) seeks a seasoned Fire Protection Engineer to lead multiple projects from the Northbrook office. You will perform on-site investigations, develop protective models, and deliver comprehensive engineering reports and construction documents.

The position emphasizes technical excellence, client mentoring, and active participation in TRGs and industry committees, with strong teamwork and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience designing and evaluating fire protection systems.
• Master's degree preferred.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (FPE) or in pursuit of PE considered on a case-by-case basis.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, REVIT, FDS, PyroSim, Smokeview, Pathfinder and CFAST.

Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for day-to-day success of multiple projects; be primary contact for clients, contractors, and project teams; mentor teammates; manage small-to-medium projects.
• Perform on-site investigations, condition assessments, and inspections including site visits and reporting.
• Develop fire growth, smoke movement, and egress zone models.
• Analyze field data, review construction documents, codes, and design guidelines to develop alternative designs for fire protection systems and life safety.
• Prepare conceptual to final client deliverables: reports, calculation packets, construction documents, and specifications.
• Contribute to TRGs, research projects, and professional organizations (e.g., SFPE).
