Job summary

Jacobs is seeking a Senior Fire Protection Engineer to lead design for fire protection systems on diverse projects across commercial, federal, and mission critical facilities. You will direct the design staff, produce drawings and calculations for fire sprinkler systems, special hazards, fire pumps, and fire alarm systems, while ensuring compliance with life safety codes.

Qualifications

• Experience designing fire sprinkler systems and associated components.

Responsibilities

• Direct the activities of design staff to produce drawings and calculations for fire protection systems.
• Serve as Designer of Record for fire protection design projects, managing schedule and budget.
• Gather information, interview stakeholders, perform studies and prepare rough layouts.
• Present findings to clients and other stakeholders and ensure compliance with codes.
• Conduct hydraulic design analyses and system research to support proposals and drawings.

As a Senior Fire Protection Engineer you will work alongside a robust staff of experienced and licensed Fire Protection Engineers to develop and use your skills and experience to deliver and complete challenging and engaging buildings projects across many different markets such as Commercial, Federal, Mission Critical, and Advanced Facilities projects in many different regions including but not limited to the United States, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. The Engineer will be directing the activities of design staff to produce drawings and calculations for fire sprinkler systems, special hazards suppression systems, fire pumps, fire alarm and mass notification, and building/life safety codes analysis. Previous design experience is a plus but please do not self-select yourself out of a position and all that are interested in a career in fire protection engineering are encouraged to apply.

The position is in the Federal Buildings Business Unit, and the project type is majority US Federal Government facilities that are contracted by Department of Defense clients (USACE, NAVFAC, etc.) as well as Federal Civilian clients to include NASA, FAA, GSA, OBO and Intelligence Community amongst many others. The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will be directing the activities of design staff to produce drawings and calculations for fire sprinkler systems, special hazards suppression systems, fire pumps, fire alarm and mass notification, and building/life safety codes analysis. Previous design experience is a plus but please do not self-select yourself out of a position and all that are interested in a career in fire protection engineering are encouraged to apply.

The position is hybrid with a minimum office attendance of two days per week in the office, but more days are encouraged to become more engrained with the culture of Jacobs.

Type of Work

• Work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines, while maintaining high-quality standards
• Act as the Designer of Record (DOR) for Fire Protection design projects including schedule, budget, delegation of work to junior staff, quality control and sealing/stamping construction drawings and specifications.
• Gather information, interview stakeholders, make studies, perform calculations, and prepare original rough layouts and sketches as required
• Present findings and outcomes to clients and other stakeholders
• Perform high level tasks under minimal supervision using well-defined standards, procedures and codes
• Perform product research; assist project designers and project architects with materials selection and system research
• Perform designs for fire sprinkler, suppression, and fire alarm system layout utilizing hydraulic calculation programs, and knowledge of ICC, NFPA Codes,
