Job summary

Jensen Hughes seeks a Principal Fire Protection Engineer to provide senior-level fire protection and life safety consulting on complex projects across markets. You will act as a trusted client advisor, delivering code-compliant, innovative solutions while mentoring staff and supporting growth initiatives.

The role requires a minimum of 15 years' experience, a PE (NY preferred) and strong communication as well as leadership capabilities to manage engagements and grow orders in selective markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) (New York preferred).
• Fire Protection Engineering PE preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive fire protection engineering, life safety, and code consulting experience.
• Strong knowledge of building, fire, and life safety codes and standards, including NY requirements.
• Experience with fire protection system design, life safety consulting, and performance-based design.
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and provide technical leadership on complex projects.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior technical resource for fire protection and life safety consulting projects.
• Develop and review fire protection strategies, code analyses, and performance-based design studies.
• Interpret and apply building, fire, and life safety codes and standards.
• Prepare technical reports, analyses, and code compliance documentation.
• Serve as the primary client contact and provide strategic guidance.
• Support project delivery, QA, and technical review efforts.
• Contribute to business development, client relationships, and proposals.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and grow technical staff.
