Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Fire & Life Safety Engineer in San Antonio, TX. You will design non-routine Fire Protection and Life Safety systems, ensuring NFPA standards compliance and code conformance.

Lead project efforts and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, delivering CAD drawings and technical guidance. The ideal candidate brings 15+ years of design experience, advanced NFPA/ICC credentials, and strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office, with a commitment to HDR's

Job description

Responsibilities

• Develop non-routine and complex Fire Protection designs for facilities such as fire suppression systems, fire alarm and detection systems, and alternate extinguishing systems in compliance with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standards
• Develop non-routine and complex Life Safety designs for facilities such as occupancy calculations, travel distances, code compliance drawings, passive fire protection systems, in compliance with the International Building & Fire codes and other Standards
• Develop non-routine and complex drawings using computer-aided design software
• Lead projects dedicated to the Fire & Life Safety area of expertise
• Perform other duties as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of 15 years Fire & Life Safety design experience in systems design or regulatory enforcement
• Previous experience with an architectural/engineering consulting firm or a previous role specifically in Fire & Life Safety

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree in a closely related field or a high school diploma with a combination of education and relevant experience
• Advanced levels of NFPA, ICC certifications or other specialized credentials related to Fire & Life Safety
• Strong computer skills using AutoCAD, Revit 3D Modeling and Microsoft Office
• Ability to lead designs specific to the area of expertise
• Attitude and commitment to being an active participant in an employee‑owned culture is a must
