Job summary

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED.
• Associate degree preferred in fire science or related field.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Minimum two years as a Fire Inspector.
• ICC Fire Plans Examiner certification.
• ICC Fire Inspector II Certification.
• IAAI-FIT Fire Investigation Technician.
• IFSAC/ProBoard Fire Officer I.
• ICS 300 and ICS 400 certifications.

Responsibilities

• Inspects residential, licensed care, commercial, industrial, multi-story, new, and existing buildings for code compliance.
• Identifies, documents, and tracks code violations through visits, notices, and legal action.
• Reviews fire protection, suppression, detection, and extinguisher systems for readiness and compliance.
• Interprets codes for the public, contractors, and agencies.
• Evaluates emergency plans and processes those plans.
• Researches codes and enforces fire and life safety regulations.
• Maintains hazardous materials information for facilities.
• Supports compliance with regulations and educates the public.
• Participates in public information and community risk reduction activities.
• Assists with presentations for community groups and schools.
• Attends events to support public fire safety.
• Conducts education programs on fire safety topics.
• Responds to emergencies and provides on-scene support.
• Maintains incident and inspection records and prepares reports.
• Attends meetings and maintains required certifications.
• May serve as acting or backup Fire Marshal.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
