Job summary

Vertical Recruitment is seeking a Senior Fire Engineer for our New York City office. You will lead fire protection consulting across a diverse portfolio and act as a trusted adviser to clients and project teams.

We require a minimum of 10 years’ experience, strong knowledge of US codes, and proficiency with FDS, AutoCAD, Revit and MS Office. PE is advantageous; salary is competitive with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in Fire Protection/ Fire Engineering consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of US building and fire codes (IBC/IFC/IMC).
• Experience in fire suppression and detection system design.
• Proven experience developing performance-based fire engineering solutions.
• Strong project management and client-facing experience.
• Experience presenting to AHJs and code officials.
• Proficiency with FDS, AutoCAD, Revit and MS Office.
• PE licence in Fire Protection Engineering is advantageous.

The Role

You will be responsible for delivering fire protection consulting services across a diverse portfolio of projects while acting as a trusted advisor to clients, stakeholders and project teams.

Key responsibilities include:

• Providing fire protection and life safety consulting services to architects, developers, owners, government agencies and insurers.
• Leading fire engineering strategies and code compliance solutions for complex developments.
• Developing performance‑based fire safety strategies and alternative code approaches.
• Undertaking fire modelling, engineering calculations and hazard assessments.
• Presenting technical solutions and design approaches to regulatory authorities and code officials.
• Managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring successful delivery on programme and within budget.
• Leading project planning, resource allocation and financial performance.
• Building and maintaining strong client relationships while supporting business development activities.
• Preparing proposals and contributing to winning new work.
• Supporting research and innovation initiatives within the fire engineering practice.
• Mentoring and developing junior engineers while fostering a collaborative team culture.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience within Fire Protection or Fire Engineering consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of US building and fire codes, including ICC codes (IBC, IFC and IMC).
• Experience in fire suppression and detection system design.
• Proven experience developing performance‑based fire engineering solutions.
• Strong project management and client‑facing experience.
• Experience presenting to Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and code officials.
• Working knowledge of Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS), AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Office.
• Professional Engineer (PE) licence in Fire Protection Engineering is advantageous.
• Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder management skills.
