Job summary

Cartamundi, a worldwide leader in playing cards, seeks a Senior Finishing Manager for its Erlanger, KY facility to lead all finishing operations with safety, quality and productivity. This role develops supervisors and team leaders, drives Lean initiatives, and partners with Operations, Planning and HR to ensure on-time delivery of first-quality product.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Operations Management.
  • 5–7 years of leadership experience within a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and standardized work procedures.
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing philosophies (SMED, TPM, 5S, Kanban).
  • Experience with SAP.
  • Strong leadership and team-oriented management style.
  • Good planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to develop strategic plans to impact larger organizational goals.
  • Ability to interpret instructions from executive management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the execution of production schedules and respond to production and personnel issues, training subordinates.
  • Foster a healthy team environment, ensure accountability and outstanding team performance.
  • Coordinate with VP Operations, other Ops Managers, HR and Planning for on-time delivery of first-quality product.
  • Aids in establishing training and development programs for employees.
  • Ensure timely communications of performance or key information to all affected personnel.
  • Model company values and promote quality, safety and productivity.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and PPE used correctly.
  • Lead development of teams and team leaders at the floor level in finishing.
  • Determine staffing requirements and redeploy resources to address shifting needs and priorities.
  • Incorporate safety in meetings and raise awareness of safe practices.
  • Institute and maintain 5S housekeeping standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Sr. Finishing Manager Operations will be responsible for leading all Finishing department operations to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective production of high-quality products that meet customer delivery requirements. The role develops supervisors, team leaders, and employees; drives operational excellence through safety, quality, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives; and partners across Operations, Planning, and HR to achieve business objectives and build a high-performing, engaged workforce. The role will take part in cross-department coordination and assist in developing strategic initiatives.

What you’ll do as a Sr. Finishing Manager Operations :

  • Assists in the execution of Production schedules and provides timely responses to production and personnel issues. Ensures subordinates do the same through continuous training.
  • Fosters a healthy team environment, ensuring employee accountability and outstanding team performance. Works across the different finishing areas to identify opportunities of cross training and development of individuals and teams to improve overall performance. Develops team leaders in each area.
  • Works closely with the Vice President of Operations, other Operations Managers, HR and Planning to coordinate on-time delivery of 1 st quality product the 1 st time. Puts team goals first and works to tear down boundaries between functional areas.
  • Aids in establishing training and development programs for employees within the area of responsibility, ensuring that the training is delivered in an effective manner.
  • Ensures timely communications of performance or other key information to all affected personnel.
  • Models company values at all times, and is an employee advocate and promoter of quality, safety and productivity.
  • Ensures people are properly trained and are following safety (including proper PPE) and quality procedures.
  • Leads the development of teams and team leaders at the floor level in the finishing department.
  • Determines staffing requirements and re-deploys resources as needed to address any shifting manning needs, or changes in priorities and schedules
  • Includes safety considerations in all department meetings and regular interactions to raise awareness of the team to perform their tasks in a consistently safe manner
  • Institutes and maintains good housekeeping standards in accordance with a sustained 5S program
  • Poses no direct threat to the health or safety of himself/herself, others, or to property.
  • Exemplary attendance and shift flexibility is an essential element of the role
  • Performs assignments as directed by management.
  • Establishes and maintains effective work relationships within the department, the Corporation and the community; and maintains the professional competence, knowledge and skill necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities.

We’re looking for a Sr. Finishing Manager Operations with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Operations Management
  • 5-7 years of leadership experience within a manufacturing setting
  • Experience with standardized work procedures, e.g. ISO 9001, written job instructions, job aides
  • Experience implementing Lean Manufacturing philosophies, e.g. Quick Changeover (SMED), TPM, Visual workplace (5S), pull manufacturing, Kanban cards, continuous improvement mentality
  • Experience with SAP
  • Proven track record in implementing significant change .
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Team-oriented management style with demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills
  • Good planning and problem-solving skills with proven track record in achieving results through teamwork
  • Ability to communicate and work well with people from all levels of the organization; instruct and direct in a firm, fair and consistent manner
  • Ability to develop strategic plans to impact larger organizational goals outside of the area of responsibility
  • Ability to interpret instructions and guidance from executive management; make thoughtful decisions and gain further data and guidance as necessary

Physical requirements and working conditions:

Our manufacturing Plant is comprised of enclosed office and manufacturing space. This position requires:

  • Physical exertion required in lifting, bending, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to manipulate objects and use various measurement tools
  • Occasional lifting up to 35 pounds.
  • Frequent prolonged standing up to 8 hours.
  • Working in a manufacturing environment while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment, typically ear plugs and safety toe shoes.
  • Corrected 20/20 vision is required along with no less than average color acuity.
  • Sitting at workstation approximately 50 percent of work time. Standing and walking approximately 50 percent of work time.
  • Ability to work overtime or occasionally on weekends with short notice. This position is located on-site in our climate-controlled Erlanger, KY facility.
