Job Description Summary:

The Senior Financial Analyst, Technology Finance reports to the Managing Director, Financial Planning & Analysis and serves as the dedicated finance partner to the Technology organization. This is a senior individual contributor role for a highly experienced analyst ready to own a function end to end: budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial reporting for technology spend. The role shapes the standards for technology financial planning, drives transparency into spend, and supports strategic investment decisions across the IT portfolio.

An important element of this role is building out financial dashboards. The Senior Financial Analyst will design and maintain the reporting and visualization tools that turns financial data into self-service insight for business leaders, establishing the key financial indicators, refresh discipline, and data integrity behind them. While the initial focus is technology spend and ROI, this dashboard and reporting work is expected to extend beyond IT to other business areas and firmwide financial reporting over time.

This is a highly visible role that requires a strong blend of financial acumen and technology business knowledge, with regular exposure to IT leadership, Finance, and Executive Management. The ideal candidate works with minimal oversight in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and communicates complex financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance audiences.

Job Description:

Primary Duties

Financial Planning and Budgeting

  • Partner with IT leadership to develop and manage the annual technology budget, including capital and operating expenditures across all technology domains.

  • Own the monthly and quarterly forecasting processes, identifying variances and separating timing from structural drivers.

  • Build and maintain driver-based financial models supporting scenario planning, investment prioritization, and cost optimization.

  • Track project financials, including actuals versus budget, capitalization rates, and return on investment, and apply firm-wide budget governance standards.

Dashboards, Reporting and Analysis

  • Build and maintain dashboards and recurring reporting for IT leadership, Finance, and senior stakeholders, including materials that feed CFO and Executive Management reviews.

  • Analyze spend trends, vendor costs, and headcount-related expenses to identify savings opportunities and efficiency gains.

  • Support month-end and year-end close with the Accounting team, and maintain records of IT assets, software licenses, and contracts for reporting and audit requirements.

  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and decision support for strategic initiatives and business cases.

Business Partnership and Process Improvement

  • Serve as the primary Finance liaison to IT leadership, translating financial data into clear, actionable insights for non-finance audiences.

  • Operate as an embedded participant in technology planning and prioritization forums, business reviews, and initiative governance.

  • Collaborate with Procurement and Vendor Management on contract renewals and cost opportunities.

  • Lead process improvement and automation of reporting and forecasting workflows, including the practical application of artificial intelligence, and serve as a subject matter expert on IT financial management best practices.

  • Support cross-functional initiatives related to technology investment planning, chargeback models, and cost allocation frameworks.

Qualifications and Skills

  • BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; MBA preferred.

  • 8-10 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 3 years supporting a technology or IT function; asset or wealth management industry background preferred.

  • Strong understanding of IT financial management concepts, including capital versus operating expense treatment, software capitalization (ASC 350-40), cost allocation, and technology cost structures such as cloud consumption, software licensing, capitalized development, and contractor versus employee economics.

  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting in a complex, matrixed organization.

  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel is essential (including a full understanding of pivot tables and reference logic) and a basic understanding of MS Access and query logic.

  • Hands-on experience building dashboards and reports in business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) and AI platforms.

  • Proficiency with financial planning tools and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle EPM, Hyperion, Anaplan, Workday, SAP); experience with IT financial management platforms a plus.

  • Proven ability to lead projects and processes independently and influence decisions across functions without formal authority.

  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills; able to produce executive-ready materials that lead with insight, paired with a definitive emphasis on quality control: numbers tie, formats are clean, and nothing goes unchecked.

  • Highly organized, adaptable, and self-motivated; works well with new or ambiguous information, competing priorities, and visible senior exposure while maintaining accuracy.

  • Strong team orientation, enjoys rolling up sleeves to resolve complex undertakings, and holds the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and confidentiality.
