Turn Financial Insights Into Smarter Business Decisions

Do you enjoy going beyond the numbers to understand what they mean for the business? Are you energized by building financial models, analyzing complex scenarios, improving how data is used, and translating your findings into recommendations leaders can act on?

Peoples Gas is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our Financial Analytics team. In this role, you'll provide analytical and financial modeling expertise that supports long‑term financial planning, customer growth, capital investments, regulatory strategy, and other important business initiatives.

You’ll independently analyze complex financial and operational information, develop and maintain financial models, create dashboards and executive‑level presentations, and collaborate with teams across the organization to turn data into meaningful business insights. You’ll also have opportunities to improve how financial analytics is performed through automation, technology, and AI‑enabled solutions.

If you’re an experienced financial professional who enjoys a combination of deep analysis, strategic thinking, technology, and business partnership, we’d like to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
Build Financial Models & Guide Business Decisions

You’ll independently develop financial analyses that help evaluate business strategies and investment opportunities, including:

  • Long‑term financial planning
  • Customer feasibility and growth opportunities
  • Capital projects
  • Commercial terms
  • Corporate initiatives
  • Regulatory‑related financial considerations

You’ll apply financial modeling techniques such as discounted cash flow (DCF), sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis, and other applicable regulatory financial methodologies to evaluate alternatives and develop recommendations for management.

Strengthen Financial Models & Data Integrity

You’ll help ensure the financial models leaders rely on are accurate, consistent, and well controlled by:

  • Maintaining and improving financial models and reporting.
  • Managing and documenting model assumptions.
  • Supporting model validation and peer review.
  • Maintaining version and change controls.
  • Reconciling financial information and validating data.
  • Incorporating relevant accounting, tax, regulatory, and business‑process changes into financial models and methodologies.
Turn Data Into Meaningful Insights

You’ll maintain, enhance, and develop financial dashboards, reports, and executive presentations that help leaders understand financial performance and make informed decisions.

This includes:

  • Collecting and validating financial information.
  • Reconciling project‑level and consolidated financial results.
  • Analyzing pro forma financial performance.
  • Identifying trends and key financial drivers.
  • Translating complex quantitative information into clear conclusions and actionable recommendations.
Help Transform Financial Analytics

You’ll have an opportunity to help modernize how financial analysis and reporting are performed by:

  • Identifying opportunities for process and system improvements.
  • Supporting automation initiatives.
  • Developing or enhancing financial models and reporting tools.
  • Integrating databases and technology into financial processes.
  • Exploring and developing AI‑powered solutions that improve data integrity, standardization, transparency, project tracking, and decision‑making.
Partner Across the Business

Financial Analytics works across the organization, so you’ll regularly collaborate with teams such as:

  • Sales
  • Business Development
  • Regulatory Affairs
  • Accounting
  • Engineering
  • Operations
  • Data Analytics
  • Other business and subject‑matter experts

You’ll also partner with Data Analytics to identify reliable source data, define financial requirements, streamline analytical processes, and improve the reporting of key financial metrics through dashboards and automated solutions.

What Success Looks Like
  • Enjoy building and challenging complex financial models.
  • Can move comfortably between detailed analysis and the bigger business picture.
  • Ask thoughtful questions and aren’t afraid to challenge assumptions.
  • Translate complicated financial information into recommendations leaders can easily understand.
  • Take ownership of the quality and integrity of your analyses.
  • Enjoy improving processes rather than simply maintaining them.
  • Can manage competing priorities and deadlines with sound judgment.
  • Build strong partnerships with both financial and non‑financial business teams.
  • Are interested in using technology, automation, and AI to make financial analytics more effective.
Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Economics, Finance or related field (i.e. Business Analytics).

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related professional experience. An advanced degree may substitute for one year of required work experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint, including complex financial modeling, data analysis, and executive‑level presentations.
  • Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, and regulated utility concepts, including rate base, revenue requirements, cost recovery, and rate structures.
  • Ability to develop, audit, and interpret integrated financial models, including financial statements, discounted cash flow, sensitivity, and scenario analyses.
  • Ability to translate complex financial and operational data into clear insights, conclusions, and recommendations for management.
  • Ability to apply model‑governance and data‑quality practices, including assumption control, documentation, validation, version management, and reconciliation.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, problem‑solving, and organizational skills, with sound judgment in managing competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to lead cross‑functional analytical projects and provide technical guidance, peer review, and mentoring to other analysts as needed.
