Job summary

UCSF Health is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst / Senior Decision Support Analyst to support its Financial Decision Support system. You will extract data from Strata/EPSi and other BI tools, develop business cases, and produce timely financial and clinical analyses for Finance and Operations partners.

The role requires advanced SQL skills, experience with hospital cost accounting concepts, and the ability to relay complex information clearly to senior stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area or four years of equivalent experience/training.
• Five or more years of experience in Decision Support or Financial Management in the Healthcare field, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Experience with hospital cost accounting concepts and systems (Strata/EPSi) and familiarity with healthcare reimbursement data.
• Strata/EPSi cost accounting and decision support systems experience.
• Knowledge of healthcare EMR, decision support, and financial software (Epic, Strata/EPSi, Oracle).
• Advanced SQL queries and stored procedures to transform and extract data for reports and forecasts.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities for cross-functional collaboration.
• Ability to work onsite when required.

Job description

The Senior Financial Analyst aka Senior Decision Support Analyst is responsible for performing critical application and analysis functions in support of UCSF Health’s Financial Decision Support system. The analyst plays a critical role in maintaining the decision support system to ensure production of high-quality, accurate, and timely patient-level financial and clinical data for our Finance and Operational business partners. The decision support system is the single source of critical financial data that all Operating units, Vice Presidents, and Directors use to prepare ROI analyses for capital and value-improvement projects, develop case-based budgets, and provide program and service-line profitability reporting.

Responsibilities will include developing business cases and extracting cost, billing, patient demographic, and other information from the Health System cost accounting database and various dashboards and Business/Clinical Intelligence tools. A critical component of this position is the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff who have a deep understanding of UCSF IT applications and databases to develop the knowledge needed to analyze complex data sets.

Supports the Director – Shared Service in their overall strategy to achieve best practices in the management of the decision support system, and its associated reporting tools. To accomplish this, the Senior analyst must develop and maintain key relationships with other Financial and IT professionals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related area or four years of equivalent experience/training.
• Five or more years of experience in Decision Support or Financial Management in the Healthcare field, preferably in a hospital setting.
• Experience with hospital cost accounting (Strata/EPSi) concepts and systems, and familiarity/understanding of hospital and professional patient billing data including healthcare reimbursement concepts.
• Strata/EPSi cost accounting / decision support systems experience
• Knowledge of and experience working with healthcare specific EMR, Decision Support, and financial accounting software. (e.g. Epic, Strata/EPSi, Oracle or similar).
• Advanced data management and mining skills include ability to develop and execute highly complex SQL queries and stored procedures to organize, transform and extract financial and clinical data for production of relevant, meaningful reports, statistics, analyses and forecasts.
• Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead projects and teams and collaborate productively on highly complex projects with key personnel at all professional and technical levels.
• Advanced written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to interpret and convey highly sophisticated technical and financial information in a clear, concise manner, and to make cogent presentations of analyses, reports, and investigation results.
• Advanced problem-solving skills analytical ability, and in-depth knowledge of documentation and reporting, with the ability to run highly complex queries and studies, to collect and analyze financial and performance data, and to produce relevant, meaningful reports, analyses, and forecasts.
• In-depth ability to work with senior staff and managers across departments, serving as a technical leader and information resource in decision support, and providing recommendations and advice on decision support processes, business and financial issues, and industry trends and advances.
• The ability to work onsite when required.
