Job description

Who We Are

Spot & Tango is an innovative pet health & wellness brand that delivers personalized meal plans on a subscription basis. Our recipes are developed by leading animal nutritionists and are made with only real, human‑grade ingredients... and nothing artificial! We have lofty goals (to make every dog in the country healthier, and every pet parent happier!) and we are looking for the right people to help us get there. This is an exciting opportunity to join a VC‑backed, high‑growth, e‑commerce startup and have an outsized impact in an extremely fast‑paced environment. Plus, you get to think about dogs all day!

Who You Are

We're looking for a highly analytical and intellectually curious Senior Financial Analyst to join our growing Finance team. You have experience in investment banking, management consulting, private equity, venture capital, or within a high‑performing corporate finance team in an operating role. You’ll have meaningful ownership, broad exposure across the business, and the chance to help build a best‑in‑class finance organization.

While this role has a strong foundation in financial planning and analysis, it extends well beyond traditional FP&A. You'll steward budgeting and forecasting for key functions, develop business cases for new initiatives, and drive high‑impact strategic work, from capital allocation and pricing to customer acquisition strategy, fundraising support, long‑range planning, and executive reporting; all in a fast‑paced environment that rewards speed, rigor, and sound judgment.

You’ll partner closely with leaders across Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Operations, Product, Customer Experience, Strategy, and the Executive Team to shape key business decisions. You'll build sophisticated financial models, evaluate strategic investments, influence resource allocation, and deliver the insights that guide the company's growth.

Financial Planning & Analysis
  • Support the annual budgeting, long-range planning, and rolling forecast processes, including coordinating department-level inputs, consolidating submissions, and building supporting schedules
  • Analyze monthly financial performance, explain key business drivers, and identify risks and opportunities
  • Partner with Accounting during month‑end close — supporting accruals, reconciliations, and reclasses, reviewing prepaid schedules, and performing flux analysis
  • Meet monthly with cross‑functional business leaders to review results, update forecast, and surface opportunities to improve efficiency and ROI; maintain reporting on budget variances and help implement action plans
  • Build and maintain financial models across customer acquisition, retention, marketing expenses, operating expenses, headcount, cash flow
  • Own HQ G&A expense stewardship across all functions, maintaining detailed models for corporate expenses
  • Co‑lead budget‑vs‑actual and forecast‑vs‑actual review meetings with department leaders, walking through variances, asking the right follow‑up questions, and synthesizing takeaways for the SVP of Finance
Business Partnership & Strategic Analysis
  • Partner with each corporate department to support strategic decision‑making, using relevant, accurate data and analysis
  • Build scenario analyses and business cases for commercial decisions
  • Challenge assumptions, surface trade‑offs, and influence decisions through rigorous analysis
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and decision support for strategic initiatives, investment requests, cost optimization opportunities, and organizational changes
  • Build models and analyses supporting strategic initiatives, potential transactions, and due diligence
  • Deliver financial insights that impact cross‑functional priorities: customer acquisition, retention, inventory planning, spend management, and new business cases
  • Use Excel, AI‑enabled tools, and BI platforms to improve reporting speed, accuracy, and scalability
Executive Support
  • Support preparation of executive, board, and lender reporting materials
  • Contribute to ad hoc strategic projects and cross‑functional initiatives as the business evolves
  • Support Finance transformation initiatives by improving financial models, reporting processes, planning tools, and automation
Requirements
  • 2–5 years of experience in investment banking, management consulting, private equity, venture capital, strategic finance, corporate finance, or FP&A
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or another quantitative discipline
  • Exceptional financial modeling and analytical skills, with demonstrated experience building complex models and working with large, detailed datasets
  • Strong grasp of financial statements and accounting fundamentals.
  • Intellectual curiosity and a genuine drive to understand the "why" behind the numbers
  • Organized, detail‑oriented, and committed to producing high‑quality work
  • Advanced Excel proficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate financial concepts for a non‑financial audience and build trusted relationships across the business
  • Demonstrated ability to independently structure ambiguous problems and manage competing priorities
Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting a high‑growth eCommerce, subscription, DTC, or consumer products business
  • Experience with NetSuite and modern BI/reporting tool
  • Hands‑on experience with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and business case development
  • A soft spot for dogs
