  • Prepare work papers and assist with the annual external audit.
  • Support the annual budget process by providing critical financial data.
  • Review and recommend updates to financial policies.
  • Advise the County Auditor as a senior staff member.
  • Responsible for annual forfeiture fund reporting for law enforcement offices.
  • Perform internal audits and attend necessary meetings and training.

Annual Starting Salary is $66,996.02 (This position may be underfilled as a Financial Accountant starting salary of $52,121.38)

Under general supervision, the Senior Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining the county's general ledger, financial accounting, and grant reporting. This statutory position, appointed by the District Judges of Tom Green County, operates under the supervision of the County Auditor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Education and Experience Requirements
  • For Senior Financial Accountant:
    • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field.
    • Minimum of 4 years of experience in auditing and accounting, preferably in government or public sector roles.
    • Preferred Experience - A Master’s degree, CPA license, or advanced accounting/auditing knowledge is desirable.
  • For Financial Accountant (underfill):
    • Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field.
    • Knowledge of governmental accounting and auditing is preferred.
Certificates and Licenses
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
Additional Information
  • Standard work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional overtime.
  • Limited travel for continuing education and within the County as required.
