Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company is seeking a Superintendent to manage multiple projects across the DC/MD/VA area. The role emphasizes leading field operations, ensuring schedule adherence, and controlling budgets while maintaining safety and quality standards.

You will coordinate with clients and Project Managers, develop detailed schedules, supervise crews, and oversee procurement and subcontractor activities. A strong background in heavy civil construction and regulatory compliance is required.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with a large scale heavy civil contractor or equivalent industry experience.
• In-depth knowledge of the construction process including scheduling, contract administration, equipment and manpower.
• Ability to lead field operations with effective decision making and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
• Understanding of construction equipment, including safe operating practices and maintenance.
• In-depth understanding of local, state and federal construction regulations.
• High School diploma or equivalent; must pass pre-employment physical/drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Schedule, supervise and monitor construction to meet or exceed the project schedule and budget.
• Encourages and/or participates in staff training and development.
• Collaborate with clients, Project Managers, other construction management to determine budget and timeline.
• Develop a project schedule, sequence of work, and monitor daily productivity.
• Have a working knowledge of owner contracts, subcontracts, and purchase orders.
• Supervise field work force to assure safety, production and budget requirements are met.
• Coordinate materials and equipment delivery to ensure long-lead and critical-path items are on-site.
• Maintain a daily log for the job site's operations, reporting to management as necessary.
• Ensure punch list is completed in a timely manner.
