Job summary

American International Group (AIG) is seeking a Senior Field Risk Engineer to support risk assessments and loss prevention for commercial facilities. The role requires travel around 25% to conduct surveys, perform plan reviews, and witness equipment testing, while documenting results in digital reports.

The candidate will analyze building construction, water supply, and occupancy hazards, and may mentor junior staff.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics required.
  • Extensive field risk experience preferred (5+ years).
  • Professional Engineer or Certified Fire Protection Specialist designation is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Travel ~25% to perform property loss prevention surveys at commercial facilities.
  • Assess building construction and the impact of plastics on construction and fire protection.
  • Analyze water supply and sprinkler demands to determine adequacy.
  • Identify occupancy hazards and assess protection features and external exposures.
  • Conduct plan reviews and witness fire protection equipment testing.

We also actively participate in, and contribute to, the development and fine-tuning of industry standards and codes.How you will create an impact· Travel (~25% overnight) to conduct property loss prevention surveys at commercial facilitieso Determine building construction and assess the impact of plastics on constructiono Analyze water supplies and sprinkler system demands to determine water supply and sprinkler system adequacyo Identify occupancy hazards and assess the adequacy of their protection featureso Identify and assess the impact of external exposures on a facilityo Determine fire and natural catastrophe loss estimates for a facility· Conduct consultative visits at customer facilities· Conduct plan reviews· Witness fire protection equipment testing· Document survey results in a data-driven report writing application· Mentor and train lesser experienced staffWhat you’ll need to succeed· Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics· Minimum five (5) years of highly protected risk, specialized industry and/or boiler and machinery field experience· Knowledge of a wide range of occupancies· Strong communicator (both oral and written)· Position is expected to travel and attend meetings at various office, field, and construction sitesStrengths for the position:Soft Skills:Highly motivated and works well without close supervision.The individual must be able to make decisions with and without established guidelines and to provide technical support to underwriters and clients.Ability to work closely with various Account Teams including Account Engineers and UnderwritersAbility to complete assignments on-time.Hard Skills:Professional Engineer or Certified Fire Protection Specialist Designation (desired but not required).Ability to perform inspections of buildings and other structures, both visually and with instrumentsAbility to read construction drawings, diagrams, printed materialsPossess at minimum of at least one year of driving experience with a valid U.S. driver’s licenseAdditional Requirements:Ability to perform physical activities required for the position (i.e., be on feet and walking 8-10 hours a day, safely work at heights)Ability to understand and appreciate safety training specific to numerous workplace and construction hazardsAbility to safely use ladders, scaffolds, lifts and other access equipmentAbility to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 50 lbsAbility to perform work in the outdoorsAbility to wear safety equipment required for the position (hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses and hearing protection)Ability to safely work in a variety of occupationally hazardous locationsAbility to type at a computer for several hours a dayAbility to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle#LI-RG1At AIG, we value in-person collaboration as a vital part of our culture, which is why we ask our team members to be primarily in the office.
