Job summary

Waterway Carwash is seeking a Senior Field Maintenance Manager to support four upcoming locations in the Northern Chicago area. The role oversees maintenance of car wash systems, safety compliance, preventative maintenance schedules, and renovations for existing sites and new builds.

The successful candidate will lead a hands-on maintenance team, manage costs, and collaborate with store management to ensure high-quality workmanship and reliable facility operations across multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a technical field OR a minimum of 5 years experience in a maintenance-related field.
  • Experience with motor control and three-phase power systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Able to work a flexible full-time schedule of 45 hours/week with 9-hour shifts, one weekend and evening shift per week, on-call, and holidays as needed.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Responsibilities

  • Safety Leader – Act as a safety role model and expects the same from others.
  • Install, inspect, and repair and operate equipment for the car wash, fuel systems, convenience stores, and facility.
  • Supervise and manage technicians and provide leadership to other maintenance staff and store management.
  • Assist store management in workplace safety, chemical applications, inventory, and equipment preventative maintenance.
  • Load, unload, and place car wash chemicals, supplies and equipment.
  • Monitor costs related to equipment, utilities, chemical use, parts use, and building/grounds maintenance.
  • Maintain building and grounds, operate snow plow, forklift and lifts when needed.

Job description

Waterway Carwash is currently hiring a Senior Field Maintenance Manager to support our four (soon to be five) locations throughout the Northern Chicago area! This position performs and coordinates all necessary and ongoing maintenance of the car wash systems and technology while simultaneously being responsible for each location’s preventative maintenance schedule, safety and security compliance, facility appearance, and project management cost control. They also assist with specific aspects of renovations at existing locations as well as the build‑out and development of brand‑new locations.

The Senior Field Maintenance Manager will be both a hands‑on contributor as well as collaborating with the rest of the market’s maintenance and store leadership teams. We are looking for a hands‑on problem solver with leadership abilities and strong interpersonal skills, plus a blend of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, plumbing, and pneumatic experience. We need someone who can self‑manage and prioritize tasks, deliver high quality workmanship, and help drive store success through collaboration with each location’s store management team.

Compensation and Benefits
  • Total target starting compensation for this position is $90,000 to $110,000, based on experience. Annual bonus based on the financial performance of the market
  • 5,000/year vehicle & mileage allowance, paid monthly (must have reliable transportation to commute to the various locations - all tools/supplies are provided)

Responsibilities
  • Safety Leader – Act as a safety role model and expects the same from others

  • Supervise and manage one or more technicians. Provide leadership and guidance to other non-direct report maintenance employees and store management
  • Assist store management in workplace safety, management of chemical applications, parts and supply inventory, equipment preventative maintenance
  • Load, unload, and place car wash chemicals, supplies and equipment
  • Monitor costs related to equipment expense, utilities, chemical use, parts use, and building and grounds maintenance
  • Maintain building and grounds for facilities including landscaping maintenance. Operate snow‑plow, fork lift and scissor lifts and needed
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree in a technical field OR a minimum of 5 years experience in a maintenance‑related field
  • Experience with motor control and three‑phase power systems
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
  • Able to work a flexible full‑time schedule of 45 hours/week that regularly consists of 9‑hour shifts, one weekend and evening shift per week, on‑call availability, and holidays as needed (except for Thanksgiving & Christmas)
  • Authorized to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our company for this position now or in the future

Physical Requirements
  • Environmental – will work outdoors year‑round, and be exposed to wide temperature variations, sunshine, wet weather (rain, snow), humidity, wet surfaces, noise, gasoline and exhaust fumes, machinery and moving parts, high‑pressure hydraulic lines, chemical solutions and dirt, power supplies up to 480‑volt, three phase.
  • Physical – pushing, pulling, and heavy lifting including overhead lifting. Manual dexterity. walking, standing, bending, lifting and carrying objects up to 50 lbs., drive vehicles. Complete tasks at a fast pace, sustain consistent physical effort, sustain continuous and prolonged standing and movement. Work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment and maintain a calm and professional disposition in all circumstances.
  • Vision and Hearing – far and near visual acuity, peripheral vision and depth perception. Hear, understand, and distinguish speech from other sounds (e.g., alarms, horns, vehicles, and equipment).
  • Language – must be able to fluently speak and understand English when communicating with other team members, managers, and customers for business related purposes.
  • Attendance – maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance. Work as assigned schedule which may be irregular and include weekends, extended hours, overtime, and holidays.
