Location & Travel

The position can work onsite, hybrid, or fully remote. Travel up to 20% is required.

The Role

Quantum Security Field Engineer – part of a nimble team of scientists, engineers, salespeople, marketers, business developers, and product managers, driving a new quantum computing security business. The role involves technical sales, demos, and customer interactions while helping build the world’s best quantum security solutions and solve complex security problems.

Responsibilities
  • Inspire prospective clients by explaining IonQ’s strategy and portfolio, and answering technical questions about our quantum security offerings.
  • Lead client discussions to illustrate how quantum security applications can be implemented in their business domain.
  • Work through business needs and map quantum security algorithms (e.g., Shor's, Grover’s, or post‑quantum cryptography implementations) into application code, executing proof‑of‑concepts with the IonQ Application Engineering team.
  • Share client insights with product management and engineering teams for product improvement.
  • Handle competitive objections and navigate objection handling.
  • Translate business needs into technical proposals for quantum security solutions in collaboration with team members.
  • Create sales assets such as presentations that explain features of our quantum security applications and other IonQ quantum products.
  • Assist the sales team in advancing prospects through the sales funnel.
  • Develop a pipeline of opportunities for IonQ’s quantum security solutions.
  • Lead client workshops to inspire quantum security engagements and generate new use‑case ideas.
  • Partner with marketing, developer relations, and business development to grow the IonQ footprint in the security domain.
  • Attend industry conferences as needed to engage clients and support booth activities.
  • Travel as required (up to 20%) for client meetings and IonQ conference activities.
  • Balance technical sales responsibilities with a compensation model that rewards success while ensuring technical credibility.
Requirements
  • 8+ years of experience as a field engineer helping customers solve complex problems through technology.
  • Excellent communication skills at varying levels of depth, persuasive ability, strong emotional intelligence, and other customer‑facing skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or another STEM discipline such as Chemistry, Physics, or Engineering.
  • Motivated learner with a strong passion for applied quantum security, post‑quantum cryptography (PQC), or quantum key distribution (QKD).
  • Background in cyber‑security, ideally in network security and cloud security.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s or Ph.D. in a STEM field related to quantum computing, security, or cryptography.
  • 5+ years of experience in technical sales or a comparable role.
  • Full‑stack architecture skills across multiple technologies.
  • Experience leading technical events and public speaking.
Compensation & Benefits

The approximate base salary range is $167,808 – $219,704. Total compensation includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefits: comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans; matching 401(k); unlimited PTO and paid holidays; parental/adoption leave; legal insurance; and a home‑technology stipend.
