Job summary

The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Senior Field Engineering Technician to join our growing practice. You will conduct field observations, test construction materials, and prepare reports documenting results while coordinating with engineers and contractors.

We value attention to detail, the ability to work independently or within a team, and a willingness to travel throughout the southeast.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5+ years of prior construction project experience.
• Valid Driver’s License; willingness to travel.
• Able to pass background, MVR, and drug tests.
• MSHA 5000-23 Training or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• ACI/ICC/SCDOT/AASHTO certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Strong math skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Field observation and documentation of construction activities.
• Testing of construction materials (soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry, grout, etc.).
• Collect data, maintain, and troubleshoot instrumentation during projects.
• Perform laboratory soils, aggregate, materials, and concrete testing.
• Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results.
• Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results.
