Summary of Position Functions

The Senior Field Commissioning Engineer is responsible for leading and acting as the commissioning authority on high complexity commissioning projects. This role will oversee all technical aspects of projects including individual commissioning tasks, scheduling and coordination with supporting commissioning engineers, budget and task management, client relationship management, setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, monitoring the progress of each task, and preparing internal and external reports for management regarding project status. Along with the project manager, acts as the client's main point-of-contact through every step of the process, from initial contact and project kickoff, through design, construction, acceptance, and project closeout. Extensive on-site duties 75% of the time.

Essential Position Functions
  • Leads and acts as the commissioning authority for high complexity commissioning projects, including but not limited to data centers, central plants, and district heating/cooling.
  • Leads, plans, and coordinates all on-site commissioning activities, requiring extensive time spent on-site (75% +).
  • Oversees all aspects of a project including scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, monitors, and summarizes progress of tasks.
  • Coordinates and leads project meetings with the client.
  • Prepares reports for upper management regarding status of project.
  • Manages complex and diverse teams to complete the contracted work.
  • Compiles related reports and data sheets as required.
  • Leads and oversees others in the development of project deliverables, including organizing and writing reports, drafting pre-functional and functional performance tests, writing Cx and M&V plans and other Cx documentation, and developing SOOs.
  • Provides QC of the final deliverables that will be sent to customers to ensure quality and contractual compliance.
  • Conducts site assessments to review systems and collect data from facilities.
  • Contributes to the ongoing development and enhancement of the commissioning processes.
  • Develops new tools and delivers advanced technical training.
  • Ensures timely delivery of reports and other deliverables.
  • Provides training, support, QC, and oversight of all technical items conducted by other engineers.
  • Leads and participates in pre-functional and functional performance tests for major electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Presents results to customers and acts as the main conduit for customer feedback and suggestions.
  • Leads project teams with the project manager consisting of internal staff and sub-consultants.
  • Supports the project manager with the leading and directing of sub-consultants.
  • Assists with business development and proposals.

Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university (mechanical engineering or electrical engineering preferred); or five+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, energy efficiency concepts, and mechanical engineering principles required.
  • Five+ years of practical experience in building commissioning, and/or construction (mechanical, controls, HVAC, electrical) required.
  • Must have excellent organization skills, a thorough understanding of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and controls systems, and consistently be able to lead customer meetings.
  • Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated client facing experience
  • Must be able to travel at least 75% of the time, mostly in West Texas, but occasionally across the United States.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of Veregy's services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time/workload.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business, professional, and technical documents.
  • Ability to write presentations, articles, routine reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts and percentages.
  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and staff.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and tactfully negotiate priorities with end users.
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure and extra hours if needed.
  • Ability to oversee financial matters on projects.
  • Strong ability to present technical details and communicate project results.
  • Ability to thrive in a strong team environment.

  • Valid driver's license required.
  • PE license or working toward PE licensure (EIT licensure), preferred.
  • Commissioning certification (BCxP, CCP, or equivalent), preferred.
