Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an experienced engineer to lead advanced materials testing for heavy machinery components at the Mossville Technical Center.

You will develop proprietary tests, analyze fatigue/fracture results, and coordinate external lab work while providing technical reviews to internal clients. The role emphasizes life-prediction modeling inputs, project leadership, and cross-functional collaboration with design and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, or related fields required.
  • Strong analytical thinking with root-cause problem solving.
  • Proven decision-making and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex results.
  • Technical excellence and ability to tackle challenging engineering problems.
  • Experience with product testing design, planning and execution.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design and manufacturing to select tests, scope timing and budgets, design fixturing, analyze data, and communicate results for life-prediction inputs.
  • Lead projects with internal clients, manage plans and budgets, and coordinate with stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Provide engineering technical support for fatigue and bolted joint testing across production introductions and continuous improvement.
  • Coordinate external labs and universities for testing activities.
  • Develop test instructions and guide lab technicians on priorities and day-to-day activities.
  • Support safety culture and technical excellence within AMT organization.
  • Maintain deep expertise in mechanics of materials, test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition/analysis.
